PETALING JAYA:
PKR information chief Fahmi Fadzil found it surprising that his nine-year-old son was talking about politics after watching videos on TikTok.

Speaking in an interview with RTM, Fahmi said that he does not find it wrong, but he is concerned about the information that children are consuming about politics on social media.

“Just the other day, a friend of mine who is an ex-MP shared his daughter’s conversation with me. He said that his daughter told him that if PH won, then all girls would need to wear skirts to school.

“I found that really shocking. I’ve been the MP for Lembah Pantai since 2018, and Nurul Izzah Anwar was the MP before me. Till today, no schools here force girls to wear skirts,” he said.

Fahmi said that children should get early exposure to politics through lessons in school in order for them to learn about democracy and the Malaysian parliamentary system.

It was also important to teach children to express their thoughts while respecting the views of others, and not express their ideas provocatively.

During the general election (GE15), social media users called out racist and provocative content found on TikTok.

Inspector-General of Police Acryl Sani Abdullah Sani has warned of stern action, including the use of the Sedition Act, against those behind social media postings that touched on racial and religious sensitivities, which he said also touched on the royal institution.
