PETALING JAYA:
The finance ministry says it is waiting for an official report on the cause of the “small fire” which broke out at a refuse room in the Treasury building in Putrajaya this afternoon.

In a statement, the ministry said a “small fire” was detected at 2.26pm at a refuse room on the ground floor of the building’s North block.

“The fire was put out by the Putrajaya fire and rescue department and did not spread to other parts of the Treasury building,” it said.

“There were no injuries or losses reported.”

In a Bernama report, Precinct 7 fire and rescue station deputy chief M Surass said the station received a call about the fire at 2.34pm.

He said three fire engines arrived at the scene at 2.41pm and took over from the building’s emergency response team.

The firefighters then put out the fire before the operation ended at 3.39pm, he said, adding that they were investigating the cause of the fire.

Earlier today, a source at the Putrajaya fire and rescue department told FMT that the fire at the finance ministry was caused by solid waste at a dump site.
