PN names Hamzah Zainudin as opposition leader

PAS secretary-general Takiyuddin Hassan says he will take on the role of chief whip for Perikatan Nasional.

The decision to appoint Bersatu secretary-general Hamzah Zainudin as opposition leader was made during a recent coalition meeting.
PETALING JAYA:
Perikatan Nasional (PN) secretary-general Hamzah Zainudin will take on the role of opposition leader in the Dewan Rakyat.

According to a New Straits Times report, this was revealed by PAS secretary-general Takiyuddin Hassan, who said the Larut MP was appointed in a recent meeting involving the coalition’s component party leaders.

Takiyuddin said the leadership had also appointed him as PN’s chief whip in Parliament.

“We maintain our previous stance that PN will not join the unity government and will become the opposition in the Dewan Rakyat,” he added.

Earlier this week, Terengganu Amanah Youth chief Zamir Ghazali proposed that PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang be appointed the opposition leader because the Islamic party won the most seats in the general election (GE15).
