Pejuang accepts Dr M’s decision to resign

He will remain an ordinary member, says party president Mukhriz Mahathir.

Pejuang president Mukhriz Mahathir says his father, Dr Mahathir Mohamad, will continue to provide ‘constructive and critical views’ about current affairs.
PETALING JAYA:
Pejuang has accepted former prime minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad’s decision to quit as party chairman but he will remain as a regular member.

Pejuang president Mukhriz Mahathir said the party is thankful for his guidance and leadership.

“We believe he will continue to provide constructive and critical views on Malaysia’s future as an elder statesman,” he said in a statement.

Mahathir lost his Langkawi seat in the recent general election in only his second parliamentary election defeat. In 1969, he was defeated by Yusof Rawa of PAS in the Kota Setar constituency.

Mahathir and Mukhriz were among 369 candidates who lost their deposits in the general election.
