Drop in number of flood victims in 3 states

Only one river in Johor, Sungai Endau in Mersing, has exceeded the danger level.

There were fewer evacuees in Johor, Pahang and Sabah as of 3pm today.
KUALA LUMPUR:
Floods have hit Muar district in Johor once again, with another temporary relief centre opened.

However, the number of evacuees in Johor, Pahang and Sabah had dropped as of 3pm today.

In Johor, the state disaster management committee said seven districts – Mersing, Kota Tinggi, Kluang, Batu Pahat, Segamat, Tangkak and Muar – were affected by floods.

It said the number of evacuees at relief centres dropped to 2,464 as of 2pm compared with 3,480 as of 8am.

Seven more centres have been closed, involving one centre in Segamat and six in Mersing. A total of 29 centres are still operating.

Only one river in the state, Sungai Endau in Mersing, has exceeded the danger level, with a reading of 2.62m.

In Pahang, the number of flood victims in Rompin has also dropped after the relief centre at Bukit Lepas was closed at 10am.

The remaining victims were being at three relief centres, involving 314 people from 96 families compared with 353 from 106 families this morning.

In Sabah, the number of flood victims dropped to 2,639 from 927 families at 19 relief centres compared with 10,347 victims from 3,569 families at 34 relief centres this morning.

The Sabah disaster management committee secretariat said 14 relief centres in Kota Marudu were closed at 2pm.

The number of victims in the Lahad Datu district is increasing, but the number of evacuees in Pitas is decreasing, while there is no change in Paitan.

The irrigation and drainage department has issued a preparedness notice for possible flash floods within 12 hours in several districts in Johor, Pahang and Sarawak if heavy rain or significant thunderstorms occur.
