PETALING JAYA: Dewan Rakyat Speaker Johari Abdul has denied claims that his son was appointed as a special officer to assist him in Parliament.
“There is no issue. My son is not appointed to any position at the moment,” he was quoted as saying by The Star.
The clarification comes amid reports circulating online that Johari’s son, Iqbal Johari, has been appointed a Special Tasks Officer 1 to the Dewan Rakyat Speaker.
The allegations were made by Perikatan Nasional’s Badrul Hisham Shaharin, better known as Chegubard, on his Facebook page yesterday.
Johari was appointed as the Speaker of the Dewan Rakyat on Dec 19. His name was proposed by Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim, and he received 147 votes.
