Tengku Zafrul, Isham, Lokman among 25 elected to Umno Supreme Council

A total of 95 candidates were contesting for a seat in the 25-member leadership council.

PETALING JAYA:
Tengku Zafrul Aziz and Isham Jalil are among newcomers elected to the Umno supreme council, while Lokman Noor Adam, who was once expelled, has retained his seat.

Puteri Umno leader Zahida Zarik Khan, another newcomer, was among the 25 members elected to the council to serve until 2026.

The list of winners was announced by party election director Shahrir Samad earlier today. A total of 95 candidates had contested for a seat on the council.

Tengku Zafrul, who is minister for international trade and industry, tied for fourth place with Umno secretary-general Ahmad Maslan. Both obtained 167 votes. Isham, who is Umno information chief, came in 19th place with 101 votes.

The most votes were won by deputy home minister Shamsul Anuar Nasarah, who retained his seat with 178 votes, followed by foreign minister and Perak Umno chief Zambry Abd Kadir with 175 votes.

The full list of those elected to the Supreme Council as announced by election committee chairman Shahrir Samad.

Lokman Noor Adam, who three years ago was expelled from the party for defying party president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, retained his place on the council having been reinstated as a member in 2021. He obtained 97 votes.

Other newcomers include Rafi Alli Hassan, Razlan Rafi, Sharkar Shamsudin, Abdul Rahman Mohamad, Johan Abd Aziz, Ahmad Said, Abdul Razak Abdul Rahman, Shahaniza Shamsuddin, and Shaik Hussein Mydin.

Notable figures from the previous Supreme Council term who did not make it to the list are law minister Azalina Othman Said, former housing minister Reezal Merican Naina Merican, former Johor menteri besar Hasni Mohammad, and Muslim lecturer Fathul Bari Mat Jahya.

Azalina, Reezal and Hasni had contested the three vice-president positions, which were won by Wan Rosdy Wan Ismail, Khaled Nordin and Johari Ghani

Only 187 out of 191 divisions took part in the party elections. Four divisions – Tanah Merah, Kota Kinabalu, Beluran, and Johor Bahru – were not involved due to technical issues and disputes.
