PETALING JAYA: Johor police are investigating two men believed to have recorded and published a video of a young couple allegedly engaging in an indecent act in a car.
Seri Alam district police chief Sohaimi Ishak said the police are investigating a claim that the men impersonated policemen when they approached the couple.
“We are still investigating the claim and the case from all angles before we submit our investigation papers to the deputy public prosecutor for a decision,” Malaysiakini quoted him as saying.
Sohaimi said police had recorded the statements of the two men and would propose that they be charged in court.
A 23-second video, which had gone viral recently, supposedly showed a 17-year-old girl and a 22-year-old man engaging in what seemed to be a sexual act in a car.
The couple in Johor Bahru had been placed under remand for two days from Friday.
They were arrested at two separate locations around Pasir Gudang on Thursday after the video went viral.
Yesterday, a lawyer representing the pair claimed that the men who recorded the couple impersonated policemen and attempted to obtain their MyKad.
Puah Wee Tse, who is also the Tebrau MP, claimed the pair were also threatened when they refused to hand over their identification cards.
Police are investigating the couple for “gross indecent behaviour”.
