Cops take Hadi’s statement on pardons board allegation

The PAS president is alleged to have commented on the board's authority during a talk at a PN rally.

An aide says PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang will give his full cooperation to the police in their investigation.
KUALA LUMPUR:
The police today recorded a statement from PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang for comments he made about the authority of the pardons board.

An investigating officer from Bukit Aman CID’s classified crime investigation unit recorded the statement at the PAS headquarters here.

The police officer arrived at the office at 11.15am and left at 12.50pm.

“Hadi extended his full cooperation to the investigating officer. He replied to all the questions posed to him,” Hadi’s political secretary, Syahir Che Sulaiman, told reporters.

Syahir also said a lawyer was present when the statement was recorded. He said Hadi would continue to cooperate with the investigation.

Hadi is alleged to have disputed the authority of the pardons board in a talk he gave at PAS’s headquarters in Bakri, Muar, on Aug 26.

During the talk, held during a Perikatan Nasional rally, he is alleged to have discussed the jurisdiction of the pardons board and is said to have claimed the manner in which the country grants pardons to offenders is not in accordance with Islamic teachings.
