Azizi Abu Naim said he decided to back the current administration for the sake of his constituents in Gua Musang, Kelantan.
“This is to ensure that their welfare is taken care of, including better infrastructure.”
Azizi’s backing of the government comes hours after Bersatu suspended Suhaili Abdul Rahman, the Labuan MP, for six years after the latter backed Anwar’s administration on similar grounds.
Bersatu had also, a few days ago, suspended Iskandar Dzulkarnain Abdul Khalid, the Kuala Kangsar MP, for four years. In both instances, the party’s disciplinary board had ruled that the duo breached Bersatu’s constitution.
Like Suhaili and Azizi, Iskandar Dzulkarnain had said last month that he was supporting Anwar’s government as he was looking out for the welfare of his constituents.
Azizi won the Gua Musang seat in the last general election, defeating the country’s longest-serving MP Tengku Razaleigh Hamzah, in a four-cornered fight.
The Umno veteran was Gua Musang’s MP for 12 terms.
