Govt working under ‘concrete roof’ with no internal disputes, says PM

Anwar Ibrahim says the cooperation between coalition partners is ‘solid’ and will stand up to attempts to topple it.

Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim said there is no need to merge unity government parties because party politics does not come up during Cabinet meetings.
KUALA LUMPUR:
Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim has dismissed the possibility of a movement to topple the government, saying that the cooperation between unity government parties is “solid”.

“Now, our roof is concrete. There has not been a single dispute in the Cabinet in the name of party differences.

“We have the strength now, we do not focus on political disputes, we focus on elevating the country’s dignity.

“Those who are desperate will fail,” he said during the Malaysia Madani dialogue with the prime minister session at the Bukit Jalil National Stadium, after a member of the public suggested that the government form only one political organisation to fend off any movement to topple the government.

On Aug 8, Bersatu deputy president Ahmad Faizal Azumu said the federal government can be replaced, even with an anti-party hopping law in force.

Meanwhile, deputy prime minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said all 18 parties forming the unity government fully support Anwar as their leader.

“Even at every meeting, the secretariat has reported that if there are differences of opinion at the grassroots level, it is not the opinion or stance of the party, but of the individuals,” he said.

Anwar also emphasised that the Madani message is not exclusive to the Malays or Muslims, but is inclusive of all races and religions.

He said the message of Madani is universal in nature, covering humanity, justice, safety and mercy for all.

Anwar also said the unity government’s achievements are not the work of one man.

“The achievements recorded by each ministry reflect the effort put forward by the respective ministers,” he said.
