PAS slams Pua over ‘no substance in parliamentary debates’ jibe

Its deputy president Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man says opposition MPs raised matters about the economy, climate change and the ringgit's depreciation.

Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man said Tony Pua’s comment showed the DAP man had not fully followed the debates of all the MPs.
PETALING JAYA:
PAS has rebuked DAP’s Tony Pua for claiming that issues raised by opposition MPs in the Dewan Rakyat lacked substance.

Party deputy president Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man said Pua’s comment showed he did not fully follow the debates of all the MPs.

“Many major issues were raised about the economy, investment, climate change, the impact of the ringgit’s depreciation, and much more, while issues revolving around attire, language, race and religion were barely touched upon by the representatives.

“They only sought explanations from the government regarding 3R related issues,” the Kubang Kerian MP told FMT, referring to matters that relate to race, religion and royalty.

Pua had taken a swipe at opposition MPs, citing a “lack of substance” in their parliamentary debates, and saying their topics and issues were one-dimensional.

“It is always about race, religion, alcohol and attire,” the former Damansara MP said in a podcast.

Tuan Ibrahim went on to claim that Pua was looking to divert the attention on the recent controversy sparked by DAP MP Ngeh Koo Ham.

The Beruas MP had recently proposed for non-Muslim constitutional experts to be included in a committee studying the conflicts between shariah law and the Federal Constitution, which earned the ire of Umno leaders and a rebuke by the Sultan of Selangor.

Ngeh has since apologised for his remarks.

Tuan Ibrahim said Pua should instead comment on the inability of some ministers to answer questions in Parliament.

PAS Youth chief Afnan Hamimi also took a jab at Pua. “Maybe he just got out of a cave with no Internet,” he said.

He said Pua should focus on helping the current government resolve issues that still plague the rakyat instead of finding fault with the opposition.
