Loke said the state government’s recent announcement on the LRT plan only concerned a memorandum of understanding (MoU) signed with a South Korean firm for a study on the feasibility of such a project.
“Under the law, they need to apply for a railway scheme from Apad, which is under the transport ministry. So far there’s no such application.
“If there’s further cooperation with the relevant company (following its study), they can apply for the scheme,” he said at a press conference here today.
On Monday, Kedah executive councillor Haim Hilman Abdullah reportedly said Permodalan Kedah Bhd had signed an MoU with Korean firm Royal Eco Train Development (RETD).
He said RETD’s study on the proposal would be completed in six months.
The state government plans to develop the LRT line from the Kuah ferry terminal to Pantai Cenang before expanding it to other tourist destinations on the island in stages.
Separately, Loke said jet operations at the Sultan Abdul Aziz Shah Airport in Subang are expected to commence in the third quarter of this year.
“We are doing the renovation right now and there are some adjustments on the terminals,” he said.
He also called for more investors in the nation’s aerospace industry and for private jet owners to send their jets to Malaysia for maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO), given Malaysia’s plan to become Asia Pacific’s MRO hub.
