Bernama reported that hundreds of people turned up to take advantage of the 50% discount offered by the police and this was one of the main attractions at the event.
This offer is only from 9am to 4.30pm today.
Online trader Nursyikin Samad, 45, who had been in line since 8.30am to take advantage of the discount, said the offer made it easy for her to settle her summonses quickly.
“However, the waiting time in line was quite long.
“In this hot weather, it is rather difficult for me to stand for a long time,” said Nursyikin, who lives in Cheras.
Businessman S Selvarajah, 72, came to pay traffic summonses on behalf of a relative.
“It is very convenient that the government organises such events and provides facilities for me to pay the summonses easily. But the queue was very long,” he said.
Another businessman, Cheng Zhe Tiong, 34, said police should implement this initiative more frequently in every district or state.
“Sometimes our work schedules are unpredictable. If police can do this more often, it would be better for busy people like me,” he said.
Previously, motorists had criticised such discounts given to traffic offenders.
They claimed it was unfair to those who settled their summonses immediately and would make offenders wait for such hefty discounts before settling them.
