PETALING JAYA:
Former prime minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad has been allowed to return home after being admitted to the National Heart Institute (IJN) two weeks ago for coughing.

Sufi Yusoff, a spokesman for Mahathir’s office, said the 99-year-old is recovering well and was allowed to go on “home leave”, Bloomberg reported.

Sufi reportedly said this meant Mahathir could stay in and out of hospital, though he did not say if he was considered discharged.

Mahathir was admitted to IJN on July 15, five days after turning 99.

He has been in and out of hospital over the past few years. He also has a history of heart problems, having undergone bypass surgeries in 1989 and 2007.

He was last warded at IJN in January for treatment for an infection and was discharged in March.
