GEORGE TOWN: A gas explosion rocked a dim sum restaurant on Lebuh Campbell here this morning, blowing off its roof as well as the rolling shutters at its ground floor entrance.
There were no casualties in the predawn incident at the Cheng Zheng restaurant as no staff were present at the time, Buletin TV3 quoted fire and rescue department operations commander Sufian Zainudin as saying.
Sufian said the department received an emergency call at 5.32am and dispatched a team to the scene. He said a check was carried out to ensure the area was safe.
Sufian said the case has been handed over to the police for further action.
The cause of the explosion and the amount of damage are still being investigated.
