GEORGE TOWN:
The Penang government is not planning to introduce work from home (WFH) arrangements for state civil servants, chief minister Chow Kon Yeow said.

Chow said the state executive council had discussed the matter and decided against it as it was not suitable for every job and there was no urgent need.

“Penang is not planning to carry out WFH,” he told reporters at Komtar here.

Last week, Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim said WFH arrangements would be rolled out in stages for selected civil service groups in view of the Iran war and concerns over fuel supply.

Anwar also called on the private sector to adopt WFH arrangements where suitable, saying several firms and banks had already started doing so.

The matter cropped up after the federal government began studying a WFH proposal for civil servants amid uncertainty linked to the Iran war and concerns over fuel supply and economic issues.
