Zahid, who is also the deputy prime minister, said Perikatan Nasional should go through the proper channels instead of just levelling accusations.
“Don’t just allege that we are misusing government machinery.
“How about the Kelantan government? I’m sure they are doing the same,” he told reporters after meeting residents in Reno Baru, here.
Zahid was asked to respond to Kelantan menteri besar Nassuruddin Daud, who recently told BN not to misuse government machinery when campaigning for its candidate.
Nassuruddin said only the machinery of the contesting parties should be involved in the poll.
He said the PAS-led administration had also banned the use of state government machinery in the campaign.
Nassuruddin’s reminder followed claims that several government assets had been used by BN in the run-up to the Aug 17 by-election, including the Teratai Pos Tohoi hall as an operations centre and vehicles belonging to the Orang Asli development department.
Electoral watchdog Bersih subsequently said the alleged use of government-owned premises clearly contradicts the practice of clean and fair elections, Malaysiakini reported.
