Magistrate Marlissa Fahmy handed down the sentence after the 46-year-old woman pleaded guilty to the charge. She faces one week in jail if she cannot pay the fine.
The defendant, who works as a cleaner, was accused of allowing her 10-year-old son to drive a Toyota Corolla on Jalan Arowana 2, Taman Arowana Impian, at 9pm on Sept 3.
She was charged under Section 39(5) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for permitting a person under the age of 17 to drive.
Deputy public prosecutor M Pusppa prosecuted, while the woman was not represented.
Pusppa urged the court to impose an appropriate sentence because the defendant should not have allowed her child to drive and risk the public’s safety.
The defendant appealed for leniency because she earns RM1,500 a month and also has to support three schoolgoing children.
According to the facts of the case, the boy crashed his mother’s car into a parked van and a Perodua Kancil.
Police said the boy’s nine-year-old neighbour was in the passenger seat at the time of the incident. They were not injured.
