Addressing reports that the discussions have hit an impasse, Abang Johari said talks between the two companies are set to conclude before Oct 1.

“Petros will collaborate with Petronas in the development of both upstream and downstream activities,” told reporters on the sidelines of the Asia Pacific Petroleum Conference (Appec) 2024 conference here today.

“That’s why I said it (the media) could be misinformed or (there was) wrong data or input for the last two days.

“There is no issue between us and Petronas.”

Responding to queries on media reports of possible legal action by Petronas, Abang Johari said: “We don’t know. That one, you have to ask Petronas.”

He also gave an assurance that existing long-term liquefied natural gas (LNG) contracts with partners like South Korea and Japan would be unaffected, even as Petros assumes its role as the sole gas aggregator in Sarawak.

“Nothing will change. You must remember that the Sarawak government has equity in LNG.

Acknowledging concerns within the industry about potential supply disruptions with Petros taking over as the aggregator, Abang Johari reassured stakeholders that operations would continue smoothly.

“We have interests in both upstream and downstream operations, so the supply of LNG will continue as usual,” he said.
