Owners of Singaporean private vehicles who have not obtained the RFID vehicle entry tag will be reminded on entry to register, install, and activate the tag immediately, said JPJ director-general Aedy Fadly Ramli in a statement.
Warning notices would be issued before they leave Malaysia, he said.
Aedy said 62,635 private vehicles from Singapore have activated their vehicle entry RFID tags up to Wednesday.
Some Singaporean drivers have urged the transport ministry to defer the Oct 1 implementation date, because of difficulties in obtaining and renewing their permits.
Yesterday, the Straits Times reported that many vehicle owners, including Malaysians who work in Singapore, were concerned they might not meet the Oct 1 deadline.
Aedy said that Singaporean private vehicle owners can obtain the permits in Woodlands and at JPJ centres in Johor Bahru.
Road charges and vehicle entry permits are required for foreign-registered vehicles coming from Singapore and Thailand. Transport minister Loke Siew Fook said in May that foreign vehicle owners will be fined up to RM2,000 or jailed up to six months if their vehicles do not have entry permits.
