PETALING JAYA:
The road transport department (JPJ) is offering 3,000 new helmets in exchange for old ones in Perak.

JPJ assistant enforcement officer (road safety division) Shamima VPK Abdulla said 1,000 helmets would be allocated daily over the three-day programme, Bernama reported.

These helmets, offered free, have been approved by the Standards and Industrial Research Institute of Malaysia.

The helmet exchange programme is being held in conjunction with the 2026 Perak Madani Rakyat programme, which began today.

Shamima said the initiative is aimed at enhancing road safety awareness among motorcyclists.

“The registration process is conducted at eight counters to ensure smooth and efficient service for members of the public,” she said when met at Bulatan Sultan Azlan Shah, Meru Raya, in Ipoh, today.

As of 4pm today, a total of 527 helmets had been distributed.

JPJ has been frequently organising such helmet exchange programmes throughout the country.
