Unemployed man charged over neighbour’s murder in Ipoh

An unemployed man was charged in the magistrates’ court here today with the murder of his elderly neighbour last week.

Foon Choon Keong, 53, nodded after the charge was read before magistrate Evangelin Simon Silvaraj. No plea was recorded as the case falls under the High Court’s jurisdiction.

Foon is accused of murdering Woo Chui Fun, 70, at a house in Persiaran Pegoh Aman 2, Taman Desa Aman, between 4.40pm and 10pm on May 4, 2026.

The charge under Section 302 of the Penal Code carries the death penalty or imprisonment of between 30 and 40 years, and, if not sentenced to death, a minimum of 12 strokes of the cane upon conviction.

Deputy public prosecutor Zulqarnain Wan Asmira prosecuted while Foon was represented by lawyer Khesminkapil Singh Dhanoa.

No bail was granted. The court set Aug 3 for mention pending the submission of chemist and post-mortem reports.
