Driver, 65, held after Form 1 student killed in road accident

Police say the 13-year-old boy was on his way to school when the accident occurred in Hulu Selangor on Tuesday.

Police have arrested a 65-year-old man to assist with an investigation into the death of a Form One student who was hit by a car while crossing the road on Jalan Kampung Gesir Tengah in Hulu Selangor on Tuesday.

Hulu Selangor police chief Ahmad Faizal Tahrim said they received a report about the incident at 7.40am.

It is understood that the 13-year-old boy was on his way to school when the accident occurred. The driver was travelling from Kampung Rahmat, Felda Gedangsa, to Tanjung Malim.

The student is believed to have suddenly crossed the road and was knocked down by a car, Berita Harian quoted him as saying.

The boy’s father rushed him to a clinic but he was pronounced dead, he said.

He said the case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for causing death by reckless or dangerous driving.
