PETALING JAYA:
A 38-year-old housewife from Bera, Kuantan, lost RM147,753 after falling victim to a part-time job scam through a social media application.

Pahang police chief Yahaya Othman said the victim was lured into the online job scam through a platform called Hand Craft Group 049 on Dec 13, Bernama reported.

The scheme promised lucrative profits for every product sold on Telegram.

Yahaya said the victim was given a link to carry out each of the tasks.

The woman was told to redo the handicraft work as there was allegedly a mistake.

“In the meantime, the victim made payments through 28 transactions to nine different bank accounts to recover links.

“The victim realised she had been scammed when she was told that she had obtained a commission of RM200,000. However, she was unable to redeem it.

“The victim lost all her savings,” he said in a statement today.

Yahaya advised the public not to be easily fooled by advertising offers on social media, especially those that offer high profits and easy jobs.
