In a statement, Wan Meor Safwat Naqiuddin Shamsudin said their disagreement concerned the administrative structure of the youth wing.
“(The structure) appears unconventional and does not reflect good governance, which could destabilise the entire Bersatu Youth,” he said.
Despite stepping down from his bureau leadership role, Wan Meor said he would remain an exco member without a designated portfolio.
“I will continue to perform my duties as an exco without a portfolio with a focus on empowering and maximising the potential, energy, and talent of Bersatu Youth members by building strong leadership profiles, enhancing knowledge in politics and governance, and ensuring the organisation’s growth and sustainability at all levels,” he said.
“I hope Bersatu Youth continues to flourish as a platform and choice for the people, in line with the spirit and principles of its struggle.”
Wan Meor was appointed to the position during Bersatu Youth’s annual general assembly on Nov 29 last year.
Hilman, the Gombak Setia assemblyman, was named Bersatu Youth chief for the 2024-2027 term.
