PETALING JAYA:
PKR is preparing to invoke the anti-hopping law against Pandan MP Rafizi Ramli and Setiawangsa MP Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad following their announcement that they are taking over Parti Bersama Malaysia.

Party secretary-general Fuziah Salleh said she would be writing to Dewan Rakyat Speaker Johari Abdul to seek clarification on whether the duo’s actions fall under the provisions of the anti-party hopping law.

“If they have announced that they have left the party (PKR) and joined a new party, technically, the anti-hopping law would come into effect,” Fuziah told FMT.

She said PKR would also decide on action against several party MPs reportedly present at today’s Parti Bersama Malaysia takeover announcement.

Earlier today, Rafizi and Nik Nazmi said they would take over Parti Bersama Malaysia, a move that comes amid their strained relationship with the PKR leadership after the 2025 party elections, where Rafizi lost the deputy presidency, and Nik Nazmi failed to retain his vice-presidency.

Both leaders resigned from their Cabinet positions following the party polls in May 2025 and have since been critical of the party and government leadership.
