Responding to reporters’ questions, Fahmi kept his comments brief and focused on the ongoing Asean Summit.
“The summit isn’t over yet. Today is only the second day,” he said.
“I have no further information at this point … so we’ll have to wait,” he added when asked about Rafizi’s next step.
Rafizi, the economy minister, attended the second day of the 46th Asean Summit and related meetings today despite previously stating that he would step down as minister if he lost the party election.
The Pandan MP was defeated by Nurul Izzah Anwar in a straight fight last Friday, with the latter securing 9,803 votes to Rafizi’s 3,866.
FMT has reached out to Rafizi’s press secretary for comment.
Separately, when asked about the date for the upcoming PKR central leadership council meeting, Fahmi said he had yet to receive the details.
“As of now, I haven’t received the dates … but usually after the party elections, there will be a meeting to appoint members to fill any vacant positions,” he said.
PKR’s newly elected leaders are expected to meet soon to discuss the outcome and implications of the recent party polls, including the possibility of a new role for Rafizi.
PKR vice-president Amirudin Shari said yesterday that Rafizi’s future in the party would depend on the outcome of these discussions.
“He still wants to contribute to the party, and hopefully he can, because he promised not to leave,” Amirudin said.
