Full tax exemption for new Proton, Perodua taxis to continue next year

Taxi and private hire vehicle owners who purchase new Proton and Perodua cars will continue to enjoy a full excise duty and sales tax exemption next year.

The government will continue with the full excise duty and sales tax exemptions for taxi and private hire vehicle owners purchasing new Proton and Perodua cars under Budget 2026.

Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim said HRD Corp will also allocate RM10 million to cover course fees and training allowances for registered taxi drivers who contribute to the scheme and undergo capacity-building training.

This is to improve operational efficiency and safety, he said when tabling the 2026 budget in the Dewan Rakyat today.
