PETALING JAYA:
The 2026 edition of the Malaysia Games (Sukma) will proceed from Aug 15 to 24, but scaled down in light of the global energy crisis and ensuing economic impact.

Youth and sports minister Dr Taufiq Johari said this was decided today by the top Sukma committee, which also comprises Olympic Council of Malaysia president Norza Zakaria and Selangor sports exco Najwan Halimi.

Taufiq, who chairs the committee, said they considered various aspects in coming to their decision, including the preparation that athletes had already made for Sukma.

“Postponing the 2026 Sukma also risks financial implications for the organiser (the Selangor government),” he said, according to Berita Harian.

He said Sukma would be scaled down to save costs although the number of sports involved would remain unaffected.
