Don’t play politics, give equal aid to all reps, PAS tells Pahang govt

PETALING JAYA:
PAS deputy president Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man has accused the Pahang government of playing politics during times of trouble, after menteri besar Wan Rosdy Wan Ismail announced a weekly allocation of RM15,000 for every constituency to help soften the economic impact of the Middle East conflict.

The Cheka assemblyman noted that the funds would only go to coordinators in opposition-held constituencies, rather than directly to opposition assemblymen.

“Measures to help the people face the rising cost of living deserve support. However, it was disappointing when the menteri besar said that the aid would only go to government assemblymen and constituency coordinators.

“This shows that the Pahang Barisan Nasional government is still playing politics when the people are facing hardships.

“This not only disrespects the people’s mandate, but also creates the perception that welfare aid has become a tool to serve the ruling party’s political interests,” he said in a Facebook post today.

Earlier today, Sinar Harian reported Wan Rosdy as saying the RM15,000 weekly allocation is for assemblymen and coordinators to purchase basic foodstuffs such as rice, oil, sugar and flour to be distributed to their constituents.

Speaking at a Hari Raya Aidilfitri open house today, he said every representative would be able to assist about 300 people each week with the allocation, which will continue until the economic situation returns to normal.

Tuan Ibrahim said the Pahang government should learn from Perikatan Nasional when it was in power in 2020, as it channelled aid equally to all MPs during the Covid-19 pandemic.

“The reality is that every assemblyman serves the people, regardless of political party. The hardships faced by the people today do not distinguish between race, religion, location or political affiliation.

“They may be concerned that equal allocations for all will strengthen the opposition, but such injustice often makes the public more sympathetic to them,” he said.
