PETALING JAYA:
Melaka police have arrested two Chinese nationals for suspected involvement in a scam offering non-existent jobs for Chinese nationals living in the US.

The syndicate operated from a two-storey terraced house at Taman Puncak Bertam in Melaka.

Melaka Tengah police chief Christopher Patit said the men, aged 28 and 38, who acted as the syndicate’s customer service officers, were arrested at 10.30am today.

An investigation found that the syndicate had been operating since February.

“The syndicate used the terraced house as its call centre and offered non-existent part-time jobs via Telegram,” Bernama reported him as saying.

Patit said police seized equipment, including laptops, phones and network apparatus worth about RM30,000.

He said police will obtain a remand order for the men tomorrow. The case is being investigated under Section 420 of the Penal Code for cheating.
