Sinar Harian reported that security personnel from MACC’s special tactical squad were stationed at every entrance to the Certified Integrity Officer convocation ceremony, which took place at the Bangi Avenue Convention Centre in Kajang.
According to the daily, the event, which began at 8.30am, proceeded smoothly without any untoward incidents.
It was attended by members of the Certified Integrity Officer Accreditation Board and senior MACC officers.
The security measures were also supported by auxiliary police and the police force.
It is understood that the heightened security was implemented to prevent a repeat of the incident that occurred during an event at the World Trade Centre Kuala Lumpur on April 7.
Several protesters staged a “silent protest” as Azam was delivering a speech at Wacanah Ilmiah Perdana.
About six minutes into Azam’s address, a protester holding a placard appeared in front of the stage where the MACC chief was speaking.
Another emerged from behind seconds later, carrying a placard calling for Azam’s arrest, believed to be in relation to the MACC chief’s shareholdings case.
A total of three activists – Liga Rakyat Demokratik president Hamdin Nordin, Liga Mahasiswa Malaysia activist Ahsanul Akmal Sulam, and Mandiri coordinator Fakrurrazzi Khairur Rijal – were arrested in connection with the incident.
A three-day remand order was obtained for the trio to assist in investigations for several offences, including obstruction of a public servant, incitement, criminal intimidation, and trespass. However, they were released on the second day of remand.
