Pahang Amanah chief Fadzli Ramly said Temerloh has always been a traditional seat for the party, which won the federal constituency in the 2018 general election before losing it to Perikatan Nasional (PN) in 2022.
“Amanah intends to contest in Temerloh as that has traditionally been our seat,” the Pahang appointed assemblyman told FMT.
PKR’s Temerloh division previously laid claim to the seat, passing a resolution at its divisional meeting for the party to contest there in GE16.
PKR and Amanah are allies in the PH coalition.
Fadzli said Pahang PH has yet to discuss seat allocations for GE16, what more Amanah handing over the Temerloh seat to PKR.
He said Amanah respected the PKR division’s right to such a resolution, but maintained that a final decision would be made through consensus by the unity alliance of PH and Barisan Nasional (BN).
He also said that Amanah had not demanded PKR’s seats despite the latter’s electoral losses.
“We are strong in several parliamentary seats, too, such as Indera Mahkota, but we don’t make noise (demanding for the seat) despite the (PKR) candidate losing in the 2022 general election.
“We have no issue with allowing PKR to continue contesting in Indera Mahkota, because we respect our allies,” he added.
Fadzli also claimed that Amanah has a good working partnership with BN in Temerloh, and that DAP, another PH ally, has no issues with Amanah continuing to vie for the seat.
In the 2022 general election, PAS’s Salamiah Nor won the Temerloh seat with a 5,520-vote majority, defeating her closest contender, Amanah Youth chief Hasbie Muda.
Amanah won the seat in the 2018 general election through Anuar Tahir, who obtained a 1,904-vote majority.
