PETALING JAYA:
The Perlis state assembly sitting scheduled to begin on April 21 has been postponed indefinitely. No reason for the postponement has been stated.

Indera Kayangan assemblyman and state opposition leader Gan Ay Ling confirmed the matter to FMT, saying she had been informed of the postponement by state secretary Noor Azman Abdul Rahman.

In a letter dated today, state assembly secretary Anwar Shahul Hameed said the opening and first meeting of the fourth session of the state assembly, originally scheduled on April 21-23, was postponed to a later date to be announced.

The letter was also sent to the menteri besar, the state assembly speaker, and other senior officials. FMT has asked the speaker, Rus’sele Eizan, for comment.

The sitting would have been the first since the political crisis of December 2025, when several Perikatan Nasional assemblymen withdrew support for then menteri besar Shukri Ramli.

Eight PN assemblymen, including three from PAS and five from Bersatu, had reportedly submitted statutory declarations to withdraw their support.

Shukri resigned on Dec 25, citing health reasons. Kuala Perlis assemblyman Abu Bakar Hamzah was later appointed menteri besar.
