In a statement, Cheras police chief Rosdi Daud said preliminary investigations found that the victim was used as a “guarantor” after his friend incurred gambling debts amounting to RM100,000.
Following the friend’s disappearance, the victim was allegedly detained for three days at an Airbnb unit in Jalan Peel to force the repayment of his friend’s gambling debt.
Police arrested two local men, both aged 30, at the scene.
Authorities also seized several items believed to be linked to the case, including a set of house keys, an access card, and two mobile phones to assist investigations.
The case is being investigated under Section 342 of the Penal Code for wrongful confinement.
Both men were remanded for three days to assist in the investigation, while efforts are ongoing to locate the main suspect.
