
He said chief secretary to the government Shamsul Azri Abu Bakar had informed the Cabinet that about 155,000 civil servants had registered for WFH.
“From April 15 until yesterday, it is estimated that there have been savings of about 334,000 litres of fuel, equivalent to RM678,000,” he told reporters after the weekly Cabinet meeting today.
Fahmi said Shamsul was tasked with obtaining data on WFH in the private sector to better assess the overall savings.
According to the finance ministry, Malaysia consumes about 700,000 barrels of oil a day, double the 350,000 barrels produced here daily.
One barrel of oil holds about 159 litres.
Fahmi, who is also the communications minister, said Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim reminded ministers today to ensure that their agencies took energy-saving measures, including holding more meetings online and reducing in-person engagements.
“The prime minister also stressed on reducing programmes and overseas travel, while prioritising government premises for workshops and training programmes,” he said.
