KUALA LUMPUR:
The chairman of the Land Surveyors Board has been charged at the sessions court here with abusing his position to obtain funds totalling over RM136,000 for personal benefit.

Hazri Hassan, 57, who is also the director-general of the survey and mapping department, pleaded not guilty after the two charges were read to him before judge Suzana Hussin.

He is accused of using his position as chairman of the Land Surveyors Board to corruptly obtain a total of RM136,115.16 by participating in board meetings that deliberated on his attendance at international forums in Saudi Arabia and the US.

The offences allegedly took place at the board’s office at Pusat Bandar Melawati between Aug 3 and Dec 31, 2024.

The charges were framed under Section 23 of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission Act 2009 for using office or power for gratification.

Suzana granted Hazri bail of RM70,000 with one surety. She also ordered him to surrender his passport to the court pending the conclusion of the case.

The court set June 4 for case mention.

Deputy public prosecutor Ahmad Akram Gharib appeared for the prosecution while lawyer Amin Othman acted for Hazri.
