KUALA LUMPUR:
An anti-Azam Baki rally planned for Saturday should not be seen as the conclusion of efforts to combat corruption, but part of a longer struggle, former Batu MP Tian Chua said today.

The former PKR vice-president said the fight against corruption did not end with a single gathering or merely by targeting one figure.

He said the movement must go beyond calls to arrest specific people as corruption was a systemic issue that required long-term commitment for its eradication.

“It is my goal (to eradicate corruption), and Saturday will not mark the end of our struggle against corruption,” he said at a ceramah held at the Kuala Lumpur and Selangor Chinese Assembly Hall ahead of the rally.

“This is not a grand finale, but a statement that we are committed to building a corruption-free society. We are committed to building the fate of the people, and we are committed to a long-term struggle.”

The rally will take place at Dataran Merdeka to press for a “full investigation” into allegations concerning the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission chief’s alleged shareholding.

Rallygoers will also push for an investigation into the alleged manipulation of corporate takeovers involving MACC officers.

Tian Chua urged youths and students to remain steadfast in combating corruption, saying the real test would come years later when they took on leadership roles in various sectors of society.

PKR’s Pandan MP Rafizi Ramli later warned that failure to address allegations of corruption could erode public trust in the system.

“In the end, people will say, there is no need to do anything. These people are all the same, they were all bought with money. They will follow the instructions of the person who gives the money,” he said.
