KUALA LUMPUR: A Level 1 hot weather alert has been issued for the whole of Perlis, parts of Kedah and several locations in Perak, Kelantan, Sabah and Sarawak.
The meteorological department said the affected areas in Kedah are: Kubang Pasu, Pokok Sena, Pendang, Padang Terap, Kota Setar, Kuala Muda and Sik.
The other areas are: Hulu Perak (Perak), Machang and Pasir Mas (Kelantan), Beaufort (Sabah), and Kapit, Limbang and Marudi (Sarawak).
The Level 1 alert, or caution, is issued when the maximum daily temperature in an area reaches between 35 degrees Celsius and 37 degrees Celsius for at least three consecutive days.
