The state BN chapter said Umno and BN would set aside all ideological differences for the sake of the people to ensure that a stable government can be formed immediately.
“In extraordinary times such as these, the interests of Negeri Sembilan’s people override all party interests.
“Umno and BN have always been pragmatic and inclusive. We believe this united majority can provide a new and stronger narrative to drive the state’s development and defend its customs,” it said in a statement.
BN has 14 assemblymen in the state assembly, and PN five. Together, they number 19 – enough to form a simple majority in the 36-seat assembly.
Earlier today, Negeri Sembilan opposition leader Hanifah Abu Baker said PN was ready to work with BN to form a new state government, after the 14 BN assemblymen withdrew their support for menteri besar Aminuddin Harun.
State Umno chief Jalaluddin Alias had announced the retraction of support, saying it was linked to the ongoing crisis involving four chieftains seeking to remove the Yang di-Pertuan Besar of Negeri Sembilan, Tuanku Muhriz Tuanku Munawir, from his position.
BN chairman Ahmad Zahid Hamidi later said the 14 BN assemblymen acted unilaterally in withdrawing their support for Aminuddin.
He said that while the party typically respects decisions made by its state chapters, this issue would be discussed by the Umno political bureau and Supreme Council.
He said the BN and Umno leaderships would look into various aspects, including the political implications and next steps, and that he would meet the 14 assemblymen soon to obtain an explanation.
Zahid also criticised PN, accusing it of trying to take advantage of the political crisis in Negeri Sembilan by offering to form a new state government with BN.
