Cops probe Facebook account over edited image linking pig to sultan

Bukit Aman CID chief M Kumar says the account owner or administrator has been identified, and an investigation is ongoing.

Bukit Aman CID chief M Kumar said 21 police reports have been lodged nationwide over an edited image of a pig in royal attire.
PETALING JAYA:
Police have launched an investigation into the Facebook account that published a post featuring an edited image of a pig in royal attire.

Bukit Aman criminal investigation department director M Kumar said the image was uploaded on April 25 via an account going by the name of “Huayan The Pureland Learning Centre”.

“Police have identified the owner or administrator of the Facebook account under investigation,” he said in a statement today.

“An investigation against the individual is ongoing, including the seizure of the device used to upload the post.”

The case is being investigated for offences involving inciting public unrest, intentionally insulting others in a way that could provoke a breach of the peace, and the improper use of network services.

Kumar said 21 police reports have been filed and statements recorded from 21 witnesses nationwide, including complainants.

He also reminded the public to be responsible when posting or sharing content on social media.

“Firm action without compromise will be taken against any individual who misuses social media for unlawful purposes, including matters related to race, religion and the royal institution (3R) issues,” he said.

Selangor executive councillor Ng Sze Han yesterday condemned the post, which he said was linked to the sultan of Selangor.

Ng, who chairs the state investment, trade and mobility committee, said comparing any person to an animal was rude and could cause unrest in a multiracial country.

The edited image follows a row over pig farming in Selangor.

In February, Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah said he did not consent to pig farming in any district in the state, citing pollution, river contamination, and social concerns.

Last week, Seri Kembangan assemblyman Wong Siew Ki defended her call for Selangor to consider modern closed-system pig farming, drawing criticism from opposition lawmakers who said it went against the sultan’s decree.
