PETALING JAYA:
Melaka DAP has rejected a proposal to introduce appointed assemblymen ahead of the upcoming state election.

State chapter chief Khoo Poay Tiong said the matter was not discussed within Pakatan Harapan.

“As far as Melaka DAP is concerned, the coalition has not discussed this appointed assemblymen proposal at the state level.

“Melaka DAP also does not support the proposal,” he said in a Facebook post.

Melaka PH chairman Adly Zahari yesterday said the idea of appointed assemblymen was among several suggestions put forward after an initial meeting with chief minister Ab Rauf Yusoh.

“We have submitted several proposals to Barisan Nasional, including for appointed assemblymen, to expand representation,” he said.

Adly said the proposals were part of an open approach to explore political cooperation and avoid contests that could affect political stability in the state.

The Melaka state election is due this year, although discussions on potential cooperation between PH and BN remain in the early stages.
