The state chapter’s chairman, Jalaluddin Alias, said the decision to retract support for Aminuddin was linked to the ongoing crisis involving four chieftains seeking to remove the Yang di-Pertuan Besar of Negeri Sembilan, Tuanku Muhriz Tuanku Munawir, from his position.
Jalaluddin, the Pertang assemblyman, said he and the 13 others were “saddened and disappointed” by the crisis.
“All 14 Umno-Barisan Nasional (BN) assemblymen unanimously declare that we have lost confidence in the menteri besar and his administration,” he said in a press conference.
Jalaluddin also said that Aminuddin should have stepped in to resolve the crisis.
He said the crisis involving the Negeri Sembilan royalty could impact the stability of the state’s administration.
Aminuddin, the Sikamat assemblyman, was sworn in as Negeri Sembilan menteri besar for a second term in August 2023.
In the last state election, BN won 14 seats while Pakatan Harapan won 17 and Perikatan Nasional secured five.
Jalaluddin said neither Umno, BN nor their executive councillors were informed of any discussions at the state government level on the crisis involving the Negeri Sembilan royalty, and only realised the issue after it had reached a critical level and was being discussed in public.
“We will submit an official notice (on our withdrawal of support for Aminuddin) to the state assembly speaker and the secretary immediately after this press conference,” he added.
BN has four representatives in Aminuddin’s administration.
Jalaluddin is the rural development, plantation and commodities executive councillor, while the others are Ismail Lasim (Senaling), Mustapha Nagoor (Palong), and Faizal Ramli (Linggi).
Ismail is the executive councillor for education and human capital, while Mustapha is the executive councillor for youth and sports development.
Faizal is the heritage, technology, innovation and digital executive councillor.
