KUALA LUMPUR:
The elder brother of the Ulu Tiram police station attacker fantasised about attacking the Merdeka Day parade with his family, according to the facts of the case read out in the High Court here today.

Radin Romyullah Radin Imran, 36, said in a statement recorded during the investigations that his targets were police officers and military personnel.

“If given the opportunity, I would attack any police officer wherever I found them.

“I also fantasised about bringing my family in a van packed with explosives to attack the Merdeka Day parade, targeting the police and military personnel, especially the commandos,” he said.

Radin Romyullah said he supported his 21-year-old brother Radin Luqman Radin Imran’s killing of two policemen at the Ulu Tiram police station, saying police and military personnel were considered infidels.

He said his father, Radin Imran Radin Yassin, 64, had spoken about attacking police officers using sharp weapons wherever they were found.

He also admitted to keeping video clips of the Islamic State (IS) terror group downloaded from social media on an external hard disk.

Deputy public prosecutor Norinna Bahadun also read out the statement by Radin Romyullah’s mother, Rosna Jantan, in which the 61-year-old said she heard her husband talking about attacking a police station and asking Radin Romyullah whether he dared to carry it out.

“A few days before the incident, I heard my husband, Radin Imran, talking about attacking a police station and asking my son, ‘Romyu, would you dare to do it?’

“I also heard my husband mention living with honour and dying a martyr,” she said.

Rosna acknowledged that her husband had exposed her and their children to IS ideology through videos circulated by the group.

Investigations revealed that four air rifles seized from the family’s house in Ulu Tiram were homemade weapons constructed using PVC pipes. Police also seized other weapons, including bows, a crossbow, arrows, spears, parangs, kerambits and knives.

The investigations also showed that the family had lived in the same house since the 1990s and largely kept to themselves, apart from the local community.

Authorities found statements and phrases written on the walls by Radin Imran expressing hatred of the government and security forces.

Radin Imran and Radin Romyullah were each sentenced to 30 years’ jail today after changing their plea to guilty to terrorism-related charges.

Rosna was sentenced to four years’ imprisonment after pleading guilty to failing to provide information relating to terrorism offences.

The court, however, acquitted the sisters, Farhah Sobrina, 25, and Mariah, 21, after the prosecution withdrew the charges against them.

On May 17, 2024, Radin Luqman stormed the Ulu Tiram police station at about 2am, killing two policemen. He was shot dead during the incident.

Following the attack, police launched investigations into his family members.
