PETALING JAYA:
The political turmoil in Negeri Sembilan will be resolved through political channels in full compliance with the state constitution and state legislative assembly’s Standing Orders, says Umno president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.

The deputy prime minister and Barisan Nasional (BN) chairman said a resolution must be sought in accordance with established procedures to ensure the state’s administrative stability was not disrupted.

“This is not a simple matter, and the best course of action is to follow all existing rules and regulations,” Bernama reported him as saying in Cyberjaya.

Zahid stressed that Umno and BN would not interfere in matters related to the state’s administration and customary laws, but would instead seek the best solution to ensure the government continued to function and serve the people.

“Political problems will be resolved politically, and not through other means,” he said.

Earlier, Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim called on Negeri Sembilan BN to prioritise harmony and stability amid the current economic challenges, saying it was not the right time to be competing for positions.

This came after all 14 Umno assemblymen in Negeri Sembilan announced yesterday that they had withdrawn support for Aminuddin Harun as menteri besar, saying it was linked to the crisis involving the chieftains and Yang di-Pertuan Besar Tuanku Muhriz Tuanku Munawir.

The state’s BN chapter then claimed it had a simple majority in the 36-seat assembly to form the state government, with the support of Perikatan Nasional’s five assemblymen.
