KUALA LUMPUR:
The Attorney-General’s Chambers has rejected a representation by suspended police officer Sheila Sharon Steven Kumar, also known as Inspector Sheila, to drop a charge of obstructing a police officer from carrying out his duties.

Deputy public prosecutor Hench Goh informed magistrate Aina Azahra Arifin of the decision during proceedings today.

The court then fixed Dec 1 and 2 for trial.

In representations filed in May, defence counsel M Manoharan argued that the charge was baseless and stemmed from what he described as an attempt to cover up wrongdoing by another party.

He contended that his client was a victim of circumstances and not the perpetrator of the offence.

Manoharan also argued that the elements of Section 186 were not satisfied.

On Nov 12 last year, Sheila, 37, claimed trial to a charge of intentionally obstructing a police officer from performing his duties.

She is accused of intentionally obstructing police officer Malvinderjit Singh Teerath Singh, 37, from carrying out his duties during a crime prevention patrol.

The incident allegedly took place between 8.15pm and 8.30pm at a restaurant on Jalan Sultan Azlan Shah in Dang Wangi here on Nov 4.

The charge, framed under Section 186 of the Penal Code, carries a maximum two-year jail term, a fine of up to RM10,000, or both, upon conviction.
