According to a statement posted by Majlis Dato Lembaga Adat Sungai Ujong on Facebook today, Faris, 27, was installed at Telaga Undang in Pantai, Seremban, on April 22, in a ceremony witnessed by adat leaders, clan representatives, and government officials.
He was selected by consensus among the adat leaders of Luak Sungai Ujong.
The appointment followed lineage rules set out in the Teromba and Genealogy of Negeri Sungei Ujong 1910, as well as the customary “patah tumbuh” principle where leadership is filled when a vacancy arises.
“The customary process of appointing the undang was carried out without external interference, in line with Clause 14(1) of the Negeri Sembilan State Constitution 1959,” the statement said.
The development comes amid a crisis in Negeri Sembilan sparked by Mubarak Dohak, the former undang of Sungai Ujong, and three other undangs who claimed on April 19 that Tuanku Muhriz Tuanku Munawir had been removed as Yang di-Pertuan Besar.
The state government rejected the declaration, saying Mubarak himself had been removed from his post the previous year.
The political crisis escalated after all 14 Umno state assemblymen withdrew support for menteri besar Aminuddin Harun on April 27, citing his handling of the royal dispute.
A separate profile in the same post said Faris is a Klana Hulu heir and a direct descendant of Petra Bador, the first undang of Sungai Ujong through maternal lineage.
He has a background in accounting, with professional training under the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants pathway. He also has experience in the corporate and insurance sectors.
