In a Facebook post, the Selangor Royal Office said the quote reads: “No one can become rich through politics unless he is a crook.”
It also said Sultan Sharafuddin shared another quote, which reads: “If the wealthiest people in your society are politicians, that society is fundamentally corrupt.”
The ruler, however, did not elaborate on whom the quotes were directed at.
“Something for all of us to ponder. May it be beneficial,” said the office.
Earlier today, the Selangor Royal Council denied that Sultan Sharafuddin interfered in the affairs of the Selangor government, saying “decrees” issued by the sultan merely amounted to advice to the state government.
The council said the term “decree” often used by a sultan simply meant “advice” in everyday language, and does not constitute a royal command.
It also said Sultan Sharafuddin’s decrees were aimed at ensuring that every action taken by the Selangor government was in line with the constitution and state enactments, and in the people’s interests.
