PETALING JAYA:
Two suspects in the murder of 19-year-old Nurfisya Zulkipli, whose body was discovered with 61 stab wounds in Ketereh, Kelantan, are expected to have their remand extended tomorrow.

Kelantan police chief Yusoff Mamat said the suspects, both 19, would be brought to the Kota Bharu magistrates’ court tomorrow morning for the remand extension application.

“We will apply to extend the remand to allow further investigations to be carried out,” he was quoted by Berita Harian as saying.

The two suspects were previously remanded for seven days from May 2.

On Tuesday, Yusoff had said that the main suspect was expected to be charged with murder in court today.

The other suspect had been released on police bail.

On May 2, Yusoff said jealousy was believed to be the motive behind the murder, with preliminary investigations indicating that an argument had broken out between the main suspect – believed to be Nurfisya’s boyfriend – and the victim before her death.

He also said Nurfisya was believed to have been stabbed in the main suspect’s car.

Police arrested three men and one woman, including two senior citizens, in raids on two separate locations in Ketereh on May 1. The senior citizens were remanded for three days.

Police also seized a knife believed to have been used in the incident, along with two cars, two mobile phones, a set of clothing and a pair of slippers, among other items.

Investigators believe Nurfisya, a third-year student at a college in Perak, was killed at another location before her body was dumped near a padi field in Kampung Simah, where she was found.
